What is Crime Online? |
Welcome to the CrimeOnline.Net user forum! This introduction is for people who may not be familiar with how user forums work.
What is an online user forum?
Simply put, it's a 'space' online for people to meet and discuss things that interest them. Most forums have a theme, and CrimeOnline.Net's theme is crime fiction.
How do I participate?
It's as easy as reading what other people are talking about and replying, or deciding you want to talk about something new and starting a conversation that others can join if they wish.
The CrimeOnline.Net forum is divided up into five sections to help you find discussion on certain topics. If you'd like to talk about books you've read or hear what others recommend, look in the Book Discussion section.
If you're interested in what it's like to be a writer, or are a writer yourself and want to talk about plotting, what type of gun your killer should use, or how to approach agents, try The Writing Life.
In the General section you can introduce yourself if you like, read about upcoming events such as book signings or conferences, make suggestions about what you'd like to see on the forum, and more.
What does 'posting' mean?
Posting is how you put your comments up for others to see. First, click on the section you'd like to participate in. Let's say you want to see what others are reading. Click on Reading Recommendations to see the topics others have contributed. You see a post called "Donna Leon," who happens to be one of you're a favorite authors. When you click on that topic, you'll see what people have been saying about this author. If you want to contribute to the discussion, click on Post Reply, which brings up a form you can use to enter your comments. Type what you want to say, then click on the Submit button to post your remarks. It's that easy.
Do I have to post every time I visit the forum?
No, you never have to post if you don't want to. If you only want to see what others are saying, you can do so. The amount you contribute to the forum is entirely up to you.
